Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
A system that stores electrical energy in batteries for later use.
Battery Energy Storage Systems store electricity generated from renewable or conventional sources for discharge during peak demand, outages, or when generation is unavailable. Lithium-ion is the dominant chemistry, though flow batteries and other technologies are gaining traction for longer-duration applications. BESS is a core component of most modern microgrids.
